Wildest Dreams is the ninth track and fifth single of Taylor's fifth album 1989. It was released on October 27, 2014 and became a single on August 31, 2015.
Meaning and Background
The song is about a relationship that is just beginning and already foreshadowing the ending of it.
- Taylor's real heartbeat is used as the beat for the song.
The music video premiered on August 31, 2015. It was directed by Joesph Kahn and mostly filmed in Tanzania. It features actor Scott Eastwood.
The video takes place on a 1950s movie set in Africa. The movie is filmed at places that show African wildlife and nature. Taylor plays an actress named Majorie Finn and Scott plays an actor called Robert Kingsley. They play a couple in a romantic movie, but also fall in love off screen. At some point, they have a falling out.
Later, after the movie is finished, Majorie attends the big movie premiere. Here she sees Robert kissing his wife and is visibly saddened by it. During the movie, Majorie and Robert (who is sitting with his wife) share a look. Marjorie runs out of the theatre crying and leaves by car. Robert tries to follow her, but is too late and watches the car drive away.
- The proceedings of this video were donated to African Parks Foundation to preserve the endangered animals of the continent and support the economies of local African people.
- The name of Taylor's character is a reference to her grandmother Majorie Finlay. Taylor is also dressed similar to her; her grandma had the same black hair. The name Robert Kingsley also references to Taylor's relatives: Taylor's grandfather's name was Robert and her father's middle name is Kinglsey.
