Ours is the fifteenth track and sixth single of the deluxe edition of Taylor's third album Speak Now. It was released on October 25, 2010. It became a single on November 22, 2011.

Meaning and Background

"Its a song about someone that I really liked at the time.  What's kind of happened with my life, which has been interesting is there are like a lot of opinions about who you fall in love with which happens in everybody's life. You fall in love with someone and all of the sudden your friends start chiming in and in my case its like, 'they don't look cute together', 'he's got tattoos', 'he's too tall for her', 'he's too short for her', 'he's too young for her', 'he's too old for her'.  I think that when two people fall in love it should just be about those two people. When I was dating someone that people didn't think I should've been dating, because I shouldn't have been dating him. When I was dating a guy that people didn't have too much of a good opinion about me dating I wrote this song to let him know that I didn't care what anyone else thought and it's called Ours."

Music Video

The music video was released on December 6, 2011. It is directed by Declan Whitebloom. Taylor's love interest is played by Zach Gilford.

Storyline
It takes place at an office. Taylor enters the building and greets the people she passes by. She takes an elevator that's full of employees looking bored. At the thirteenth floor, everyone leaves the elevator, pushing Taylor. She sits at her desk between her co-workers. Some guys disturb her by playing video games and throwing paper planes. A cup of coffee has fallen over at the desk and the light above her flickers. When she goes to the printer, it is out of paper. She returns later, and it's now out of toner and when returning for a third time, the printer is gone. She waits at the water cooler, a man in front of her takes multiple cups while Taylor has to wait. At the lunch room, two women talk about Taylor behind her back. Back at her desk, she finds a sticky note that says "I loved you first". She watches a video on the computer of her and her boyfriend writing the note and doing other fun things together. When she sees that she can leave, she runs out of the office and smiles as she enters the elevator. She waves her collegue in the elevator goodbye and high fives the janitor. She takes the bus home and watches videos of her and her boyfriend on a tablet. The bus arrives at the airport in Nashville. Taylor looks around and sees her boyfriend in military clothes, coming home from serving in the army. Taylor jumps into his arms; the video ends with them hugging.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Elevator buttons and morning air
Strangers' silence makes me want to take the stairs
If you were here, we'd laugh about their vacant stares
But right now, my time is theirs
Seems like there's always someone who disapproves
They'll judge it like they know about me and you
And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do
The jury's out, but my choice is you

[Chorus]
So don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
And life makes love look hard
The stakes are high, the water's rough
But this love is ours

[Verse 2]
You never know what people have up their sleeves
Ghosts from your past gonna jump out at me
Lurking in the shadows with their lip gloss smiles
But I don't care, 'cause right now, you're mine

[Chorus]
And you'll say
Don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
And life makes love look hard
The stakes are high, the water's rough
But this love is ours

[Bridge]
And it's not theirs to speculate if it's wrong
And your hands are tough, but they are where mine belong
And I'll fight their doubt and give you faith
With this song for you

[Breakdown]
'Cause I love the gap between your teeth
And I love the riddles that you speak
And any snide remarks from my father about your tattoos
Will be ignored
'Cause my heart is yours

[Chorus]
So don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
And life makes love look hard
Don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
But they can't take what's ours
They can't take what's ours

[Outro]
The stakes are high, the water's rough
But this love is ours
