London Boy is the eleventh track of Taylor Swift's seventh album Lover. It was released on August 23, 2019.
Meaning and Background
The song is about her boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who is from London and she had been in a three years relationship with when the song was released.
"With this song, I just kind of wrote about, basically, what it was like to basically be like, 'Bye guys! I'm gonna go here for a long time.' And there's a voice that you'll hear in the beginning of it, and it's Idris Elba's voice talking about London. And in the bridge, there's a name-check of Stella McCartney, and this name-check where I reference her was when I like... I went over and played her the song. So, I played it for her, and she was like 'Oh my God, let's do something.' And I was like, 'OK!' And so then that's why we have this merch collaboration. She's got really amazing designs, and having them be at accessible pricing is really cool and really wonderful, and I'm glad we could figure that out."- Taylor about London Boy
"This is supposed to be over the course of 3 years. Like somebody told me, 'they think that you're talking about one day' and I was like 'oh no, you'd never make it.' You wouldn't make it. You'd make it in 3 years."- Taylor about the timeline of events in London Boy
- The snippet of Idris Elba talking about London is from his appearance on the The Late Late Night Show with James Corden. Both Idris and James were her co-stars in Cats.
