Welcome to New York is the first track of Taylor's fifth album 1989. It was released on October 27, 2014.

Meaning and Background[]

Taylor wanted to write a song about New York because she loves it, just moved there and nobody made one in a long time. She wanted it to sound like 1980s. Because of that Ryan Tedder, the co-writer, bought a 1980s keyboard. The song was written in three hours.[1]

  • The full song is featured during the opening scene of the animated movie The Secret Life of Pets.
